Tri-State and Xcel are currently going through a federally regulated environmental approval process called an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS). This process is being overseen by the Rural Utilities Service (RUS), a federal agency that works under the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The EIS process requires that public input is considered as a part of the decision-making process. We urge you to contact Dennis Rankin, project manager with the Rural Utilities Service, and tell him that you think this line is unnecessary and that the RUS should:

  • Oppose this expensive, overbuilt and unnecessary line
  • Protect one of Colorado’s last remaining pristine corridors
  • Fully consider all viable alternatives that strengthen reliability and encourage responsible renewable-energy development

It is also important to contact your elected officials to share your opinions on the transmission line. Below is contact information for several Colorado elected officials whose constituents will be impacted by this project.
